Mary Fedden’s African Violets is a fine example of her love for painting everyday, simple objects in gorgeous, bright colours. Mary’s paintings reflect her love of simple, everyday objects – African violets in a vase, a saki bottle and a lemon – always depicted with a brilliantly effective use of colour, as exemplified by this bright and colourful painting.

If you are a lover of flower paintings, this is a lovely work that glorifies one of Mary’s favourites, the African Violet. For a similarly gorgeous celebration of British flora by Mary Fedden have a look at Pansies, also in my collection, although I’m afraid Pansies is now sold.

African Violets is a small but perfectly formed Fedden gouache/watercolour and a great example of Mary’s still life paintings. It is very well presented in a contemporary gold and silver gilt frame behind glass and is in excellent condition.
